How Dare You Wish Me 'Happy Thanksgiving'!?

Ok… People can really piss me off. I subscribe to an active listserve with over 600 international members. This last week there were a total of maybe 10 messages wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving. It is a holiday celebrated in the USA, but it really applies to everyone. It is a holiday of giving thanks for what you have, and general goodwill. Well a few people on the list got their panties in a bunch and started complaining about it. One even threatened to quit the list if the messages about holidays his country doesn’t celebrate didn’t stop. The rest of the list gave the obvious answer: so what?

But what is it with people? He got all offended and offensive over something so simple… honestly, it is pretty simple to just delete messages with the subject line “Thanksgiving” in it, and it wasn’t as if there were hundreds of messages or anything. Then on top of it he sent something in spanish and said “that was a greeting for a holiday we celebrate in my country” ... um… ok. We don’t care, guy.. don’t you see? WE don’t mind if someone wishes people well on a holiday. However, since HE minds so much, he was being a hypocrite—that on top of the fact that he only did it to be annoying anyway. Sheesh. I sent him private mail off the list telling him he was a buttwad.
