The Sound of Glee

glee posterI had really high hopes for the new Fox show Glee this fall. I really loved the show “Fame” when I was a kid, and I hoped that this would have some of the same things I loved about that. I was a performing arts student myself in both high school and at the beginning of college.

The show is a comedy, and a very campy...

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Finals (Top 4) Recap

The Final 4 Dancers

Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Mandy Moore

Cat Deeley's duct tape dressIt looks like someone took a roll of duct tape and spiraled up Cat Deeley’s body with it.

Courtney and Twitch – music: “Church,” T-Pain. The costumes are horrible, but the dance is kind of cute and quite silly. It’s nice to see Courtney dressed in something that isn’t totally slutty. She’s wearing brown plaid pants...

The Results Show

Intro – The group dance is to Bette Midler’s The Rose, which is a gorgeous song. I think the choreography was good but the dancing could have been tighter. Parts of it that were supposed to be in sync weren’t quite (parts of it were staggered intentionally,) and it hurt the overall picture. Cat likes the wind machine that is blowing onto the stage.

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Top 6 Recap

Top 6 Dancers

Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Adam Shankman

Cat Deeley is wearing an ugly shapeless dress. Apologies for posting this late, but I’m on vacation without access to my TiVo so things are a little spotty for me.

Courtney and Mark – Viennese Waltz, music: “The Time of My Life,” David Cook. Courtney’s dress is gorgeous—so flowy and graceful. The dance is pretty, though the music is cheesy (it’s the American Idol songwriting contest winner. Gag.)...

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Top 8 Results Show Recap

The Results Show

Intro – The group dance was a hip hop routine that was pretty good but the makeup was horrific. The pants all had gold butts. It was pretty funny. Nigel is wearing a t-shirt and a leather jacket tonight. Nigel gives a pitch about how we all need to vote for the presidency this year. Cat appears to be wearing a toga.

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Top 8 Recap

Top 4 Couples

Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Toni Basil

Courtney and Will – Samba; music: “I Fell In Love With the DJ,” Che’ Nelle. Courtney is wearing a dress made of yellow string. The dress is very distracting as it disguises her body movements. Samba is supposed to be sexy but this dance just… isn’t. I don’t know if it’s the choreography or the dancing but it has no chemistry for me. At the end, Will...

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Top 10 Recap

Top 5 Couples

Judges: Nigel Lithgoe, Mary Murphy, Lil’C

I was out of town all week and am watching the episode very late on TiVo. My commentary will be abbreviated as a result.

Comfort is back on the show because Jessica broke some ribs.

Courtney and Joshua – kind of an interesting hip hop routine, but the dancing from Courtney appeared to suffer from the restrictive tightness of her jeans. It seems like she couldn’t get the...

The Results Show

Intro – I wasn’t impressed with the group dance. It was a hip hop routine that wasn’t terribly in sync most of the time. The parts where they were in the dark with the glowing stripes on their sleeves were pretty cute though.

Cat’s hair is in a huge rat’s nest behind that big wad of stuff in her hair, though she is again wearing a flattering dress! Is this a new trend? I’m...

Oh my god, I actually like Cat Deeley’s dress! It’s actually pretty and flatters her figure! She doesn’t look like she’s pretending to be a household cleaning or personal hygiene product! I think her hair looks good like that as well. Is this a first?

Chelsie and Mark salsaChelsie and Mark – salsa – Music: “Fuego,” Joe Bataan. I think Chelsie’s...

The Results Show

Intro – the group dance is horrific. that’s all I can say about it. It was a trainwreck. With a piano on wheels. Cat’s hair is up in some sort of Mickey Mouse buns, and she’s wearing a collar made of bobby pins. There is a pointless montage of Tyce DiOrio criticizing people during the auditions.

Another ugly Cat Deeley dressIt’s yet another WTF is Cat Deeley Wearing night. They’ve also done something strange to her hair.

Jessica and Will – first up is a jive routine. Music: “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie,” Five Guys Named Moe (Original Broadway Cast). Through the whole thing they’re making goofy faces, it’s too much like they’re pretending to do the...

Cyd Charisse, the famous dancer, died this week at age 86. Nigel talked about her for a moment to open the show. After that and the usual time-filling babble, they get on to the dancing:

The episode starts off with Cat Deeley (wearing something that looks like it’s part dress, part poodle) telling us that the dancers have been together long enough now to have annoyed each other, and introduces a montage of Chelsea and Thayne talking about how they feel about each other. It’s boring. Chelsea says Thayne is too superstitious. This week they are doing jazz, and their choreographer...

Vegas Week

Day 1

A hip hop routine by Napoleon and Tabitha starts off day 1 in Vegas. Popper Robert decides to quit because he found the choreography too hard and he didn’t want to drag a partner down with him. So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Auditions Recap (Milwaukee)

Last Night of Auditions

The show starts off by showing a montage of hip hop dancing from previous cities (interspersed with Nigel mugging his gangsta face/poses) and a shot of a really scary red-haired black woman saying in a hyuk-hyuk hillbilly voice “yeeayah!”

Before the Milwaukee auditions start, they take a moment to show some auditions from previous cities that were not previously shown. Somebody kisses a ferret....

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Auditions Recap (Charleston, Washington, D.C.)

Sorry I’m getting this recap up almost a week late—we had some emergencies here at the house this week with one of my cats. However, I’m making up for it by including pictures! Not good pictures, because I had to take photos of the TV screen, but pictures none the less!

Day 1

We start off with the typical lame city intro montage which kind of looks like it takes place in a trailer park, and...

So You Think You Can Dance 2008 Auditions Recap (Salt Lake City, Dallas)

Last week on the season premiere I didn’t take notes, so I can’t recap that episode (though it is still on my TiVo and I hope to do it retroactively in the next few days). Starting this week, however, I am going to try to write a recap of each new episode. This is episode 2, auditions from Salt Lake City, Utah and Dallas, Texas.

I sometimes feel like I’m the only one on the planet that watches the two Stargate franchises (Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis), but I love them. Yes, they’re cheesy. Yes, they can be cliché. So what? They’re fun and they entertain me. When...

Movie Review: Earthstorm (TV, 2007)

Oh where to begin? This movie was such a horrible, horrible mess! I really wish MST3k was still on because this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that would have been perfect for them. The first thing that stood out was the cheeseball opening graphic sequence…
